BS/MS Degree Requirements

(Excluding Transfer Credits)

Students should be aware that the guidelines described here apply only to the B.S./M.S. program in Manufacturing Engineering. Guidelines for the B.S./M.S. programs in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science may be obtained from the graduate coordinators of those programs. Please refer to the WPI Undergraduate Catalog for more details and complete requirements for B.S./M.S.

  1. Admission to the M.S. Program in Manufacturing Engineering
  2. A minimum of thirty (30) credit hours
  3. Successful completion of the four core courses with a grade of C or better:
  4. Specialized study in one are of focus - 9 credits
  5. Elective - 3 Credits
  6. M.S. Thesis (Minimum six (6) credit hours)
  7. Presentation and successful public defense of M.S. Thesis
  8. Minimum 3.0/4.0 CGPA for all courses taken for graduate credit at WPI

Guidelines Counting Courses Toward Both Degrees

A minimum of two courses and a maximum of four courses may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. The program is most reasonably completed in five years if exactly four courses are counted toward both degrees. Regardless of how many are counted toward both degrees, at least two must be graduate courses (including graduate-level independent study courses), and none may be lower than the senior-level. A grade of B or better is required for any course to be counted toward both degrees. Students must register for full time graduate study in their fifth year for courses to be counted toward both degrees.
