Helen E. Stoddard Fellowship 2004/2005
Olga Karabelchtchikova is currently a Ph.D. student at Materials
Science Department and a recipient of Helen E. Stoddard Fellowship,
2004/2005 year nominee. She received her degree of engineer-physicist in
Physical Metallurgy from Lipetsk State Technical University. During her
undergraduate years, she has worked on “Mathematical Modeling of the Borating Processes in Steels” and graduated with honors in June
2002.
During her Master's program at Texas Tech University (Department of Industrial Engineering), her area of specialization has been in tool steels characterization, non-destructive testing, metal processing and control. The analysis of experimental data and its subsequent modeling were further used as a basis of her thesis “Modeling of Multipass Grinding Effect on Residual Stresses Distribution and Surface Integrity of D2 Thread Rolling Dies”. The research work helped evaluate conceptual progress in the dynamics of the residual stresses formation and memory relationship in their superposition effect.
Olga's research work at WPI will deal with carburization process optimization as she pursues her Ph.D. program.
