LKR from Austria, and its partners of the Global Light Metals Alliance from Australia (CAST), Canada (Canmet), Germany (GKSS) and WPI (USA) organised the 2nd International Conference on Light Metals Technology. The conference was held June 8-10, 2005 where academic researchers and industrial engineers from 24 different nations from all five continents listened to almost 50 presentations of novel R&D results in the field of light metals. The latest developments in casting and forming of aluminium and magnesium alloys, alloy development, modelling and new applications was covered at the conference. The combination of different materials in the so-called hybride design was in the center of focus in the field of new applications. The state of the art in through-process-modelling for forming and casting was presented by a number of speakers. Improvements in melt quality control, alloy compositions and heat treatment parameters for better light metal products for current and future applications were described.
