In the Labor Day weekend, about sixty (plus about twenty kids) CAM Lab alumni and current members as well as their families got together to celebrate Professor Rong’s fifty years birthday and get to know each other. Many of them were from far away in mid-west such as IL, IN, and MI. Details can be seen at http://webrong.byethost14.com.

The students and professors in Manufacturing Engineering Program of WPI got together on May 1, 2008, to celebrate the completion of the academic year. Besides the undergraduate and graduate students, Professor Brown, Professor Fofana, and Professor Rong, as well as Toby and Brendan from the Lab participated. They enjoyed a slide show of Toby’s new baby, as well as the lunch and a lot of talking.

Before the end of D term, the students going to China for their MQP got together at Campus Center in the evening of Friday, April 25, 2008, for a celebration of finishing D term PQP and the final preparation of traveling to China/Korea in summer for MQP. The exchange students from HUST joined them and all of them enjoyed BBQ cookout as well as a lot of talking.

The students participating MQP in China program in 2008 had another get together on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. The project arrangement was further discussed and the project teams were almost finalized. The students participated last year in 2007 and exchange student from Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea, Mr. Hyoung-jun Lee, also joined us for discussion and enjoying the food. This year four WPI will go to Korea for two MQPs sponsored by Korean companies, in additional to about twelve WPI students going to China.

The traditional CAM-Lab Thanksgiving Party was held at Professor Rong's house on Thursday, November 22, 2007. Dr. Yihong (David) Yang and his wife, Weiwei Wang came from IL, as well as Yao Zhou from New York City came back to share the happiness with us. Besides the turkey and other delicious food, they also enjoyed the ping-pong game, Karaoke and poke play, as well as a lot of talk. It was a good time to relax from hard working on different projects.

Several families of CAM Lab alumni in Boston area had a reunion party at Dr. Aarcus Kang’s house on Sunday, September 30, 2007. Besides Dr. Kang’s (used to be Eric Kang) family, the participated include Professor Rong and his wife, Professor Yufeng Wu from UConn, Dr. Jie Li and his family, Dr. Weifang (Mike) Hu and his family, Dr. Quansheng (Charles) Lu, Mr. Yuefeng Kang and Mr. Shiping Huang and their families. Dr. Hui Song missed the party because of an unexpected activity. They enjoyed the nice weather and a lot of talk on the old days.

CAM Lab had a BBQ cookout get-together at Back Patio of the Campus Center on September 14, for the new academic year. This time is particularly to welcome the new members to our Lab, as well as several friends who are new to WPI. We enjoyed the food and a lot of talk.

MQP in China 2007 students, exchange students from HUST, China and Korea, as well as several ME professors and IGSD directors made the last get together on Monday, April 30, 2007, before the end of D term. They celebrated the finish of PQP and shared the excitement/questions before going to China. They also enjoyed the nice weather for the cook out BBQ at Higgins House at WPI. Particularly learn about the stories of Higgins House and WPI’s tradition.

The first MFE student get together in D term was held on April 5, Thursday, 2007. Besides regular social communication and exchange of information/ideas on MFE program in WPI, as well as enjoying pizza and soda, the exchange students from Korea, Su-Hee and Hyoung-Jun made a presentation to introduce their university, Kyungpook National University in Korea, and their student life in college.

Fifteen MQP in China 2007 students got together on March 14, 2007. Professor Rong welcome the students back from their term break and introduce more project and non-project information of the trip. The HUST exchange students joined them and shared the experience in China and on WPI campus. All enjoyed pizza and soda as usual.

The traditional CAM-Lab Thanksgiving party was held at Professro Rong’s house on November 23, 2006. Besides the current members of CAM-Lab, Yao Zhou came back from Columbia University, Weiwei Wang joined us too since she was in the area for business. Several special guests joined the celebration and made this year unique. Professor Wuqiang Yang from UMIST, UK, was Professor Rong’s schoolmate in Tsinghua University and got together after more than 20 years. Professor Xin Zhang from Northern Jiaotong University, Beijing, China is Professor Rong’s odl friend and currently working as a visiting scholar with MIT for half a year. Dr. Yongchi Tian came with his wife from Princeton NJ. He was Professor Rong’s “oldest” friend, classmate at primary school. Professor Terai is a visiting scholar at MIT from Japan. Dr. Eraldo da Silva is a visiting scholar from Brazil and currently working at Saint Gobain . Roger Fu came this year too. He is a second year student at Harvard University and his father was Professor Rong’s classmate at Tsinghua University. All enjoyed the turkey and other food, shared the stories about Thanksgiving, and activities such as pin-bang and singing.

On Saturday, May 6, 2006, a informal get-together was held at Professor Rong's house. About 20 CAM-Lab members, visitors and their families participated to celebrate the end of the school year. Particularly to celebrate the graduation of Yao (Amarjit's celebration will be a separate one and Iain was out of country). Also the exchange students (Wayne Tian, Popey Liu, Jim Liu, and April Li) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) will leave WPI soon, plus welcoming the three new comers (Professor Jianfeng Li, Hua Li, and Dong Lu) recently joined CAM-Lab. Besides enjoying the food, several people demonstrated their special telence of performing music instrument and talk shown, as well as Kara-OK.

In the evening of Tuesday, May 2, 2006, there was a get together for people involved in MQP in China, including the nice WPI students going to China for MQP in June this year, a graduate student doing his independent study on Lean Manufacturing in China, four HUST exchange students, four WPI students who went to China last year, as well as special guests, including WPI Provost Simpson and Dean Li from Shandong University, China, as well as several new visiting scholars in CAM-Lab. All students and guests enjoyed BBQ cookout and discussion on China experience.

The traditional CAM-Lab. Thanksgiving party this year was held in the evening of Saturday, November 27, 2004, at Dr. Rong's House. Majority of current CAM-Lab. members enjoyed chess, pin-pong, piano, karaoke, etc. besides traditional turkey and other food.

A party was held for the new academic year on August 29. We celebrated the successful year of harding working and enjoyed the State Park at New Port, RI. It is particularily to welcome Weifang's coming back (also his family, especially his daughter) and wish Dr. Kang a nice trip back to Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, as well as a celebration of the graduation of Rohit. On May 7, a BBQ party was held at Douglas State Forest for celebration of the end of the academic year, particularly for the graduation of Yefeng (Jeff) Sun with MS degree. Members of CAM-Lab. and their family and friends had a good time of enjoying the late-coming spring besides the delicious food.

On December 28, 2002, we had an end-year party at Dr. Rong's house. Besides most of the CAM-Lab. team members and their families, several alumnus and their families came to join us. They are Dr. Quansheng Lu, Dr. Yuezhuang Kang, Dr. Li Zhou, and Mr. Stephen Lei. Professor Zhenyuan Jia from Dalian University of Technology came to visit us and also participated the party.
