Mission
Be a center of excellence for education and research in Surface Metrology serving WPI, and our industrial and academic partners.
Vision
- Generate useful knowledge for our partners.
- Conduct research projects in collaboration with our partners.
- Advance measurement and analysis methods in Surface Metrology.
- Make discoveries that improve the understanding of surface textures for the design of products, processes, and quality control systems.
- Develop Surface Metrology by disseminating new knowledge and by educating outstanding engineers and researchers.

Human Resource Goals
- Provide a pleasant and intellectually stimulating environment in which to work and study.

- a Lab co-director.
- Part-time Secretary.
- 3-6 graduate students, including three, full-time PhD students.
- Undergraduate students in the summer.
- Undergraduate work studies and projects during the school year.
Funding Goals
- Four lab partners by November 2006 (>$60,000)
- Ten lab partners by November 2007 (>$200,000)
- 2008 (>$300,000) become an NSF center
