In the summer of 2005 four WPI students participated in these projects. This will be the second year for these projects. The students will travel to China to work with Chinese students from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in mixed team, professors at HUST, and professionals from local companies and US companies doing business in China.
The topics of the projects include,

Project 3: Automated Packaging Automated Packaging Machine Machine
Design for Paper Clips
Project 4: Assessment of roll forming
practice at CIS China
Project 5: Improve the work scheduling of production
The titles of the projects are tentative and subject to change. The projects are sponsored by Saint Gobain - Shanghai Operation, HUST Tongji Hospital, American Industrial Partners in Wuxi, China, and Zhejiang Clips Manufacturing Firm. Most of the work will be done on HUST campus with a few trips to the company locations.
Groups: 6 - 10 students to work with 6 - 10 senior HUST students on 3-5 projects.
Advisors: Professor Kevin Rong
Co-advisor: Professor Sisson and Professor Hou, as well as Professor Changlin Wu and Professor Charles Cheng from HUST
Project Teams: Two - three WPI students will work with two - three senior students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan China. The project will be advised by faculty from both WPI and HUST.
Location: Wuhan is a city in central China, by Yangtze River.
Additional benefit: WPI students will not only participate in an excellent project experience but also learn the working environment and technical development in China. In addition they will work with Chinese senior students, and learn Chinese culture.
Other activities: Visit to a Chinese manufacturing plant and weekend sightseeing tours around Wuhan will be arranged. A tour in Shanghai will also be arranged.
Estimated cost: In addition to 1 unit of tuition, the estimated costs for each student will be approximately $2,000.00, including international and domestic air tickets, lodging, and meal and transportation costs.
